SSI is a backbone of the Indian economy, but, at the same time, is surrounded by many hindrances, difficulties and problems. In the days of globalisation, when all talk about big, very big and giant, we at MCCI with full determination and focus, had decided to celebrate and execute the year 2004-05 as the Year of SSI in order to salute their worthy contribution in the Indian economy and also to provide them a united platform to overcome their major worries. It is the only sector which offers a fullest employment potential in the country and SSI is the only way of needed de-centralized industrial development in the country. It is for this cause and also to bring the attention of one and all, particularly that of policy makers, towards the plight of this sector, the Year of SSI is designed.

Shri J. M. Pawar is heading SSI Year Committee of MCCI as its Chairman under the able guidance of our President Hon'ble Shri Ekanath K. Thakur (Hon'ble Member - Rajya Sabha) and we are also confident that under his astute leadership, we will certainly succeed to overcome the major worries of SSI Sector.

As per his guidance, we will be also bringing out A WHITE PAPER ON SSI which will focus on everything about SSI, its current position, status and also what should be done for this sector in near future. We would be also having a number of events and interactive sessions, which will spread the message of SSI Year to the nooks and corners of the State as well as the country. This is a Himalayan Task and we would earnestly request you for your full support, backing and enthusiastic participation in making success.
